WINNIPEG, MB: The internet is full of information – and misinformation. Even asking ChatGPT could provide one with misinformation. M&M Roofing and Exteriors, a roofing contractor serving Winnipeg and the surrounding areas, wants Winnipeggers to know about a bit of misinformation it has found online: Claims that the Manitoba Building Code (2024) requires all roofs to have underlayment.
These claims are false. Underlayments play a role in roofing systems, but they are not required. In fact, some types may be more detrimental to your home than good.
Manufacturers will always recommend the use of underlayment with their roofing system; however, they, along with the manufacturers of these underlayments, will also caution one as to what criteria should be met in order to use them.
“When roofing companies publish false information online, it can lead to consumers making decisions, thinking more is better,” said Marc Maric, the owner of M&M Roofing and Exteriors.
For over 15 years, M&M Roofing and Exteriors has provided customers in Winnipeg and the surrounding area with exterior renovation services. These services include inspecting, installing, and repairing roofing, siding, soffits, fascias, and eaves. The company also offers more specialized services, including chimney repair, vent repair and installation. It offers warranties on its shingles, ranging from 25-year warranties to lifetime warranties.
